Introduction

Milton Abbey rests below a gentle hill in a secluded natural amphitheatre that forms a backdrop to this most beautiful place. The mansion house was designed by Sir William Chambers for the Earl of Dorchester in 1775 with interiors by James Wyatt. The grounds were landscaped by Capability Brown and there have been monastic buildings here for more than thousand years investing the whole with a timeless and other-worldly quality.

The Kings' Room, so called because it contains an impressive collection of royal portraits, has wonderful views over the grounds and is an excellent example of James Wyatt's brilliant interior design. The room makes a most attractive setting for civil marriages and can seat a large number of guests. If required after the ceremony, it can be converted for dancing. There is an elegant fireplace, which may be used.

Milton Abbey was originally a Benedictine monastery, but only the spectacular and historic Abbot's Hall of 1498 survives. Here too, there is a majestic fireplace still in use. This is a truly magnificent room in which to hold the reception of your dreams.

The Abbot's Hall can accommodate 120 people for a wedding breakfast. You can have more guests for an evening party.

The Library is a superb room with a beautiful ceiling that can be used as a peaceful area. It is also used for the pre-wedding interview immediately prior to civil ceremonies.
